Before leaving the USA, I had to see my younger brother, so over the weekend, my parents and I drove down to Virginia and met my brother. We spent the day touring Jamestown. This is a picture next to the church tower, the only surviving structure there, with my Mom and brother James.
After Jamestown, we went to the site of the siege of York town during the Revolutionary War. My brother being gored at a redoubt, while I watch.
The next day was spent at General Douglas MacArthur's memorial in Norfolk. Here is a part of his speech to the cadets at West Point on receiving an award. This was his last appearance at West Point.

It keeps getting shorter

I wanted to share a picture of my new haircut, since many have never seen me with short hair or it has been a really long time.
Plus, here is my mom with me under the blossoms the night before I leave for South Africa.

A Quick Guide To South Africa

It has been said that once you have lived in Africa you cannot comfortably live anywhere else, that once you have have dust of Africa between your toes, it is there forever. It is the smell of that dust and of chilies, of late rains on dirt streets, of wood smoke in the chill morning air, of grilling meat on a warm evening in the bush, or in a city garden. It is the sound of the cicadas, the deep belly roar of a lion, or a street vendor selling today's newspaper. It is the feeling of sweat running down your back, or a mosquito on your ear. It is the sight of a sunrise over the Indian Ocean or a sunset on the sands of the Kalahari. It is the feel of Africa. You need to be here, in South Africa, to experience it.
